This book was a pleasure to read. The premise was unique. Haven't read anything like it. I hope she writes more on this character. Being an "I love casinos" person, it was fun to read about the hypothetical workings of the background.
I think Gemma Halliday has a winner in this character.
Tessie King is so much fun as art dealer turned casino boss in Luck Be A Lady. I had a great time following her laugh-out-loud antics through this great little mystery. Lots of wacky supporting characters as well (love her best friend and side-kick Tate!). The first book in the series sets the stage for a great love triangle between hunky snowboarder Rafe and FBI hottie Agent Ryder. Looking forward to reading the next installment in this exciting new series!
I don't know what to think of Gemma Halliday anymore. I used to love all the Maddie Springer books (high heels) but absolutely HATED the last one I read a couple years ago. It was too silly for words. I also liked a series she wrote that was about a Hollywood tabloid writer but then those seemed to go to KINDLELAND so they weren't available to me anymore since I don't have a KINDLE. When I ran across this book I thought OK I'll give it a shot. Maybe the last high heels book I read was an anomaly or something. When the book arrived I saw that it was written by Gemma Halliday AND T. Sue Versteeg. Uh Oh. Usually the "and" author is the one who really wrote the book and I'd never heard of T Sue Versteeg. Double uh-oh when I noticed a typo on the back cover synopsis. This is gonna be bad I thought.
Well I was WRONG!! I LOVED this book. Fast paced, complex, everything a book of this genre should be. The characters were not stereotypes. They came off as very real and the protagonist was smart, feisty and had every reason to be involved in trying to solve the mysteries.
While the identity of the culprit was not a huge surprise, it could have turned out to be any number of suspects. It really kept me guessing til the end.
I am definitely hooked on this series. There's lots of potential for some great stories. I'm really looking forward to the next one.
Absolutely loved every minute of this book! I read it cover to cover in one sitting, hard to put down. I could relate to the characters and especially identified with Tessie...how could you not? I thought I was so clever and had it figured out but I was wrong and the ending surprised me, a true sign of excellent writing. Good job! I am a big fan!
Think I've read and enjoyed all of Gemma Halliday's other books, so this one was a no brainer for me to buy. I had never read any of TSue VerSteeg, but I will be looking for any of hers now too! This is a fantastic collaboration and I am looking forward to these 2 ladies writing more of this series. The book itself is well written and well edited. Recommend for mystery, suspense, humor and a little romance, too.
Action packed mystery. Starting with the death of Tessie`s father. She turns up for the funeral and her life changes immediately. Lake Tahoe is the location and the descriptions of the area make you believe you are there.
Murder, thefts and deception abound. Twists and turns in the weaving of the story keeps your interest and the suspense tweaked throughout.
Terrific strong characters in Tessie, Rafe, Ryder and Alf. Comic relief with Tate. Endearing with Britton and her innocence. The story grabs your attention immediately and keeps you in suspense until the very end.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a mystery mixed with suspense and just a touch of humor and romance.
I'm a big fan of Gemma Halliday and was very excited to see that she had a new book out so I pre-ordered it and got it the day it came out. I then realized it was a collaboration and I was very hesitant to start reading it so I put it off till this afternoon when I had some time. This book was so hard to put down that I devoured it in only a few hours. Great hilarious story with lots of red herrings, some romance and a seamless collaboration. If you haven't done so pick it up now. It's worth your money and time. Can't wait for the next adventure!
